Il primo giorno d'autunno
The Altar and the Hypostatic Union: The rough-hewn stone block represents the altar of sacrifice and Creation assumed. Upon it, the intertwining of the fabrics symbolizes the Hypostatic Union: the white cloth manifests uncreated divinity and purity; the maroon cloth represents human nature, royalty, and the blood that will be shed.
The Gospels and Mariology: The four-lobed structure of the stone rose window embodies the testimony of the four Evangelists who guard the mystery. Within it, the rose-shaped stained glass pays homage to the Virgin Mary (Rosa Mystica). Her presence evokes how the Mother’s fiat at the Annunciation sustains and accompanies the sorrowful fiat of the Son.
The Eucharistic Axis: The epicenter of the light is the fractured host with the halo of blood, a synthesis of the institution of the Eucharist (Body and Blood). The vertical alignment between the consecrated host and the head of Christ proclaims that the historical sacrifice of Gethsemane and the Mass celebrated on the altar are one single, eternal sacramental act.
Christus Sacerdos unites in a single image the altar, the flesh, the evangelical testimony, Marian intercession, and the Eucharist, offering a profound meditation on the Eternal Priesthood of Christ.
